Introduction

Often we feel dejected and at times also become emotional about the scenario of life-threatening acts, poverty and corruption in the Nation. We dream about an ideal Nation; but it only remains a dream.  We do feel intensely for our nation in waves but with passage of time this feeling dies down. Only if we feel bhav towards our Nation then do we feel like doing something to improve the circumstances  in the  country. Here an attempt has been made to explain the meaning of bhav why it is necessary and how to awaken it to some extent.

Bhav is superior to emotion !

Emotions are perceived at the mental level. Emotion developed spontaneously in response  to a situation is temporary. On the other hand bhav is awakened in the subconscious mind. Though bhav is also generated spontaneously in response to a situation its awareness lasts for a long time. That is why  bhav is superior to mere emotion.

Contemplate on whether you have bhav for the nation by turning inwards!

Feeling dejected about our countrymen suffering due to starvation, the atrocities on our women, Hindu brethren getting killed in communal riots etc and worrying about the pathetic state of the country and wondering when its transformation will occur  are but transient emotions for the country.

1. Do you ever eat less thinking of those crores of your countrymen who starve ?

2. Have you ever shed tears for the injustice inflicted on your brethren in communal riots?

3. Have you ever felt disgusted towards the comforts and pleasures you are enjoying after knowing about the pitiable condition of the Kashmiri Hindus who were forced to leave Kashmir due to terrorism?

—– if you get such feelings then  you have some amount of bhav for the Nation.

Bhav arises from Sacrifice and Divine support  !

Many mawlas (Shivaji Maharaj’s soldiers) helped Chattrapati Shivaj Maharaj to establish a Hindavi Swarajya.  Every mawla would hold a tulsi (Holybasil) leaf in one hand and a burning coal in the other and ask Shivaji Maharaj ‘Tell me o king what shall I choose between the basil leaf and  the burning coal to get Swarajya (independence). I shall do as you say.’
The foundation of Hindu culture is  sacrifice . An accomplished state is  a part of the fruit of Hindu culture. So it is but natural  to develop bhav for the Nation through an attitude of sacrifice.
Bhav is a reaction at the  spiritual level. Pure bhav for the Nation can develop only through Divine support . ‘O youth, if you are struggling for the survival of  the Nation then it should accept  the Hindu religious code of conduct completely ’, said Swami Vivekanand. There is total surrender in bhav. Only in total surrender does God bless us. Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj had to face several  obstacles when establishing Hindavi Swarajya but he was able to overcome all of them because of his intense faith in  Deity Bhavanimata and also his righteous conduct .

To develop bhav for the Nation perform your duties for Dharma (religion) or do sadhana !

Only if one has bhav for the  Nation then  his actions will  be in the interest of the Nation. Though this is an undisputed fact   it is equally true that if you  do something for the  Nation as your duty unto Dharma or simply as sadhana then  you will gradually develop bhav for the Nation. What can you do to achieve  this? Follow the guidance of  Saints who have  deep concern for the Nation, give donations to organisations doing selfless social service for national welfare and above all  become a part of  their mission !

It will be possible to establish a Divine Kingdom only with bhav

One fostering bhav for  the Nation is a true patriot. An extremely beautiful Divine Kingdom will be established with  the guidance of Saints through such patriots. God is giving you an invaluable opportunity to participate in this mission of his by becoming a patriot. Do not let go of this opportunity !

O supporters of Hinduism, instead of  practising  Hindutva at the emotional level gain prowess through Spiritual Practice and then strive for Hindutva !

Introduction

‘There are many Hindus in our society who strive for  Hindutva. They are very proud of Hinduism and are prepared  to face any kind of hardships to protect it.They get  agitated withHindu-haters and make all possible efforts to prevent harm to Hinduism and to stop denigration of Hindu Deities. What is important  here is that, when we work  for Hinduism or  any other good cause, support from  God is absolutely essential. Only then will our mission be successful. Even if we do not succeed due to an unfavourable period of time then our  faith in Hinduism remains firm.  I am enumerating some points below to show Hindu protagonists the significance of support from God, that is in other words, the importance of undertaking Spiritual Practice.  – Mrs. Rajashree Khollam [Jyeshtha Krushna Pratipada (27th June 2010)]

1.1 Ethics without Divine support is like a child deprived of parents

Mere ethics without Divine support is like a child deprived of parents. This means that in this frightful Kaliyug (era of strife)  just  being good, having good conduct, involvement  in  a good religious/righteous mission is not sufficient to attain success because the evil acts of evildoers during this period have reached a peak .  Cruel evildoers are constantly hatching conspiracies to torment us. So not to prevent harm caused by them  and to be able  work for Hindutva at all times we need blessings from God and the grace of our Guru (spiritual guide) because finally only God and  the Guru  can ferry us through a crisis. To achieve that we have to undertake appropriate Spiritual Practice  and seek their blessings. This is how  we increase our spiritual prowess. [Sanatan Sanstha and the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS)  are organisations which give proper  guidance on  Spiritual Practice ! – Compiler]

1.2 Following Dharma (righteousness)  enhances the Sattva component  and consequently  the spiritual prowess

We do not want Hindutva to be practised at the emotional level.  We want it to become our attitude as a result of continuous practice of achar (code of conduct) prescribed in Hinduism. This way Hindutva becomes powerful because by following the principles of Dharma we receive Divine blessings. Hence for all those who wish to participate in the mission of conserving Hindutva  there is no alternative to Spiritual Practice , it is a must.  Spiritual Practice enhances  the Sattva component in you,  creating spiritual prowess.  This helps you to face any difficult situation in life with Divine protection. Also anti-Hindus and evildoers feel terrorised with the grace of God and they are prevented   from  harming us.

1.3 Spiritual experiences of being able to achieve impossible tasks with Divine support

You can get spiritual experiences of achieving impossible tasks with  Divine support  as energy  from God is limitless. If we are devoted unto Him then when we call out to Him He rushes to our rescue and takes the task to successful completion.  Hence the task is accomplished beyond our expectations. This in turn enhances our devotion unto Him . Actually He gets His own task done with us as mere participants. Yet He showers His grace upon us.  In this way by surrendering doership to God  if you strive for Hinduism then the mission will become even more expansive.

1.4 The true objective is not working for protection of the Hindu Dharma rather to win the grace of  God

Our aim is not to protect the Hindu Dharma; it is  to win the grace of God. To carry out a mission for Dharma you need  tremendous spiritual prowess.  As Saints possess this they can accomplish  great missions by their sankalp (resolve) and even their presence. How much strength can we average humans possess  and how much can we achieve with that ? Hence if we perform the task with the blessings and guidance from  a Saint, we do not claim doership for it and the task is accomplished even more successfully . In addition we also  receive  Divine grace. Hence instead of working at the emotional level it is necessary to act after contemplation,  with spiritual strength .

1.5 Importance of Divine support  and grace of Saints !

Let us study a few incidents in the life of  Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj  to understand this .

Slaying of Afzal Khan by Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj

A. For two months before the meeting of  Afzal Khan and Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Pratapgad, Samarth Ramdasswami, his Guru, would offer abhishek (ritualistic bathing with water or milk) to  the Linga (Divine Phallus)  of Deity Rudra (Shiva) every day at  Mahabaleshwar. That protected Shivaji Maharaj and the enemy got  killed. This shows that mere planning and expertise in warfare is insufficient. Spiritual strength is also necessary to achieve success.

B. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj could easily escape from Aurangzeb’s prison  because of blessings from two Saints and for his observing achardharma.

C. Merely with the blessings of Saints and the tej (radiance) generated in him due to Spiritual Practice Shivaji Maharaj  could defeat the huge Mughal army and establish his own kingdom known as Hindavi Swarajya.

This makes it clear  that to fight the cruel evildoers it is not sufficient  to have only physical and  mental strength or dedication unto a cause.  To achieve success in the mission spiritual strength is very much essential .

It is my humble request to all  Hindu protagonists to contemplate on this article and commence Spiritual Practice  immediately to augment their spiritual prowess so that they can dedicate their lives for the Hindu cause wholeheartedly. I pray unto God to give all Hindus protaganists  the strength and wisdom to undertake Spiritual Practice !’

Goal of achieving progress in an individual’s life changes with spiritual perspective. In fact, the real progress of an individual is in doing something for the spiritual progress of the society. Course of development of an individual and nation can be discovered only by following spirituality.

What is the meaning of progress of a human being at various levels in his life and when progress in real sense of the term, will be achieved. After the Second World War, progress of an individual started to be gauged with his worldly success, money, power as also by his looks, gait and style of talking etc. These measures are superficial. Spirituality takes care of an individual’s worldly needs and problems. Knowledge of good and bad, development of prudence is progress. Development from an animal to a human being, from a human being to a seeker and from a seeker to a saint that is divinity, is the real progress in a human’s life.

The concept of development of a society: If we think of our nation in the context of development, it is not even healthy, it is a sick nation. We have to think that how can we cure our nation of its ailments before we talk about development. The real concept of development is taught only by righteousness. America can think of eliminating Laden but it has no remedy for removing the Raja-Tama thoughts of terrorism. That can be done only by India, which is a ‘Sattva’ pre-dominant nation.

Instead of calling an all-party meet to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir row, the government would do well to try to understand the fury of Hindus and not limit the scope of the introspection to the Amarnath issue. Are Hindus angry only with the hypocrisy of the government on the land issue? Are there no other topics that make them furious?

Hindus are a peace-loving people. The average Hindu is easy-going and accepts you and your diversity, whether you are Christian, Muslim, Parsi or Jain, Arab, French or Chinese. He goes about his business and usually does not interfere in yours. In fact they take it a little further: They hate trouble and go out of their way to avoid it.

Everywhere in the world, on the other hand, Hindus are hounded and humiliated; be it in Fiji where an elected government was twice deposed in an armed coup, or in Pakistan and Bangladesh, where Muslims target Hindus every time they want to vent their anger against India (read Taslima Nasreen’s book Lajja). There were one million Hindus in the valley of Kashmir in 1900. Only a few hundred are left today, the rest having been forced to flee through terror. In Assam, Tripura, or Nagaland, Hindus are being outnumbered by Bangladeshi illegal immigrants and terrorised by pro-Christian separatist groups, such as the Bodos or the Mizos, while local governments often turn a blind eye. Their temples are being taken over in states like Kerala or Karnataka, the donations appropriated by the state governments.

Yet in 3,500 years of known existence, Hindus have never invaded another country and never tried to impose their religion upon others. No, it has rather been through peaceful invasions that Hinduism has stormed the world, whether in the East, witness Angkor Wat, or in the West today, where the byproducts of Hinduism, yoga, meditation, ayurveda, pranayama have been adopted by millions.

Hindus also gave refuge to all persecuted minorities of the world.It’s a pity that these two communities turned against their Hindu brethren , the former by way of lured conversions, and the latter with bloody invasions.

Hindus, who accept everybody and welcome all religions, are mocked and bombs are planted in their markets, their trains and temples are attacked, they are chased out of their homelands; television and newspapers make fun of them, their own politicians ostracise them.

So, sometimes, Enough is Enough. At some point, Hindus, the most peace-loving people in the world, those Mahatma Gandhi once called gently ‘cowards’, erupt in fury ,uncontrolled fury.

Yes, one should condemn the Gujarat pogrom, but one should look also at the causes. It is not only the 36 innocent Hindu women and children who were burnt to death in a train by a mob of criminals. It is also how much silent frustration and anger must have built over the years, decades, or centuries even, amongst Gujarati Hindus, that in one moment, 1,25,000 Hindus, normal, peaceful people, came out on the streets of Ahmedabad with such fury.

The same thing is true of Jammu and the Amarnath issue. Hindus never complain about their government giving billion of rupees to Indian Muslims for the pilgrimage to Mecca. But when Hindus need shelters, toilets and basic facilities at a height of 15,000 feet to worship at Amarnath, it is denied by the same government. So they erupt in fury.

Instead of appealing for calm and communal harmony, instead of giving us all this eyewash about a 500-year-old Dargah �mostly patronised by Hindus� political leaders, journalists, and spiritual leaders, would do well to look at the root cause of Hindu fury, and try to address their frustrations.

Journalists should also do a little bit of introspection. Hindus have had enough. If this government, or the next, does not take note of their frustrations, we might very well see more Jammus erupting in the coming months and years.

New York: Noted French journalist and writer Francois Gautier who has made India his home and propagation of Hinduism his cause and mission for over three decades, is currently traveling across the US to raise funds through his foundation, FACT-India, for the setting up of an Indian history museum in Pune, India.

Gautier, perhaps one of the very few Westerners to have unconditionally adopted a Hindu way of life, feels the widely prevalent distorted image of Indian history as propagated by the British, Christian missionaries, communists and the western world in general for over two centuries, has necessitated the museum to portray Hindu civilization in the right light.

In an interview with India Post during his visit to New York last week, Gautier spoke about his ambitious museum project, the many threats to Hinduism in today’s world and how Hindus can gain the respect of the world.

IP: Can you tell us about the Museum of Indian History?
Gautier: I have been donated some land in Pune by a private trust where I want to build the museum to be called the Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum of Indian History.

I see in India there are no museums of Indian history worth the name. So the idea is to start from the Vedas, go on to talk about the greatness of the whole of India and the entire drama of the invasions through history, the Hindu holocaust, and then portray India of today and tomorrow.

IP: What kind of funds do you need and how long will it take to complete the museum?
Gautier: It’s a huge project but definitely it will happen. It’s about $40m dollars, and I don’t know how long it will take — perhaps 10-20 years, because I don’t have the money right away. But I am ready to start, once I start, the donations will come and people will understand the importance of this museum.

IP: Why is it important to have such a museum?
Gautier: As a journalist and writer, when I started documenting for my book, I realized that most history books on India are based upon very old theories considered defunct or debatable such as the Aryan invasion theory, which evidence shows has never taken place.

Both British historians and later Nehruvian historians have toned down the considerable impact on Indian culture of the invasions starting from Alexander the Great to the Arabs, the Muslim invaders and the British — that entire part of the history has been swept under the carpet. And even later, the history of India’s Independence is very unfairly portrayed.
The need of the museum is very important so we can look at India’s history in a very scientific manner, which is what my organization FACT India is doing.

IP: Will the museum focus only on the Hindu history of India?
Gautier: The museum will also broach upon many of India’s dark periods in its history like the inquisition in Goa by the Portuguese, the Sufi persecution, the Ahmedi Muslim persecution in Bangladesh, how the Buddhist history was wiped out and how some of the early Syrian Christians of Kerala were persecuted. And of course the Hindu holocaust right from Hindu Kush (massacre of Hindus) to the current terrorist activities against them.

I want school children to come to the museum and learn of their own culture and be proud. Kids in Indian schools are learning about Shakespeare and Milton, not about their Hindu or Indian culture. In my country we are taught about great French people like our poets, social reformers, artists etc… so I grew up proud of my culture, but Indian kids do not grow up learning about or feeling proud of their culture.

IP: Do you see any kind of opposition to your project from either the government or any section of the Indian society?
Gautier: Of course there’s bound to be some opposition, you can’t make everybody happy. But one has to go by the truth. Whatever one’s limitations, if backed by truth, even if it is opposed, there will be some kind of direction and protection.

In fact, there are three reasons for setting up the museum in Pune: One– of course the land donated is in Pune; second– since I work in Pune, I found that people of Pune, irrespective of their political affiliations, are quite nationalistic in nature. I feel my museum will be more protected in Pune than anywhere else in India; thirdly– Pune is Shivaji’s birth place. There is no museum of Shivaji anywhere in Maharashtra though he is a true hero. So naming it after Shivaji will be a protection for this museum.

IP: Over the many years of your career, how successful have you been in changing western perceptions of Hinduism?
Gautier: It’s a very difficult task, because unfortunately the image of Hinduism is not that good. But, there is more ignorance than hostility. Westerners do not know that it is a monotheistic religion. Secondly, Hindus, especially Brahmins have been at the receiving end of many like the British, the missionaries, the Islamic invaders all of who created a very negative image of Hinduism — particularly the missionaries emphasized only the negative sides of Hinduism and amplified them a thousand times. Today we still find that even after 200 years, these negative images have survived even in the minds of Hindus in India.

Unfortunately it is a great handicap for journalists like me who like Hinduism and want to defend it. I can’t say I have been very successful, but at least now westerners are open to going to India and understanding Hindus.

There are so many good things to be said for Hinduism, but unfortunately there is no will among Hindus to try to explain to westerners. Hindus are just content to come to the West and melt into local cultures or at best keep their spirituality and religion to themselves.

IP: What do you think of the role of the Indian intellectual elite and media in projecting the image of Hindus?
Gautier: The British have left such a mark on the minds of much of Indian intelligentsia and elite, right from the erstwhile Maharajas who have copied the British way of life that it has left a deep impression on generations after that. Today Indians think that everything that comes from the West is good. It’s very stupid, because many things in the West have failed like family values etc.

This generation of Indian intelligentsia is aping Marxism so brilliantly, which is dead even in Russia, and is probably only left in Cuba, but I don’t see why Indians should copy Cuba (laughs).

Look at the Chinese, they are so proud of their culture; nobody dares to fiddle with them, even America will not dare to interfere with their affairs.

IP: Many Hindus fear the very survival of Hinduism in the face of Islamic fundamentalism. How real are their fears?
Gautier: The fear is very real. I see there are five or six enemies that may be covertly or overtly attacking Hinduism. In the past there was any one threat at a time like the Greek, British or Muslim invasions. But today, there are the threats of Muslim fundamentalism, Christian conversions, Marxist onslaught, Westernization and so on which are eroding the Indian culture all at the same time. However, there are many great gurus today like Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and others who are repackaging the Hindu tenets like spirituality. pranayama, yoga, ayurveda etc for everyone’s easy consumption while not associating them with Hinduism. Though I do not agree with that, it’s an important movement today and helping to preserve that culture.

It’s true that Hinduism is under attack and it looks frightening at times. That’s why the museum is so important.

IP: Have you ever felt conflicted about the culture you were born into and the one you adopted?
Gautier: Personally I have never felt conflicted, but people of my country often do not understand why I defend the Hindus– that has been a bit of a problem. Though my country is sympathetic to India, when you touch the intellectual layer – people who are fed on the Nehruvian history and the downgrading of Hindu culture, I have come into conflict sometimes with these people. But for me living in India is a protection; people often appreciate the work I do. Some of my friends do not understand why I poke the dangerous Islamic fundamentalism by defending Hindus. I started speaking about it (Islamic fundamentalism) 20-25 years ago when it was not at all politically correct to speak about it. Even those friends who like me sometimes do not really understand me. I have faced a lot of hostility also.

IP: What can Hindus living in America do to preserve their culture?
Gautier: For Hindus living in the US, whether fist or second generation, it is important that they carry their Hinduness. It is a special privilege to be born a Hindu, because you inherit the knowledge which is very ancient and very practical. Also the many Hindu groups which are scattered should unite to become a lobby like the Jews. They should teach their children to be proud of being Hindu while being faithful to their Americanness. They should create a lobby in the US to be able to influence South Asia policy at the administration level and see that it does not cap India’s nuclear policy.

IP: Is there something that really frustrates you?
Gautier: Hindus don’t think big. Most Hindu movements in the US have mostly people without a vision, they don’t unite; it’s very frustrating. When I last visited the US in 2002, the Hindu community was more vibrant, today I find many of the Hindu leaders of that time burnt out or taken a back seat or gone back into mainstream life; that is saddening. If only Hindus knew their own power — there are one billion in the world — Islam is conscious of its might and its numbers; Christianity though on the decline, is conscious of its greatness in terms of technology and power. Hindus, who are not all that small in number, have to use more muscle. Meekness and submissiveness will not take them far, they have to show muscle power. That’s the way to get respect in the world.

Sanghe Shaktihi Kalau Yuge !’ means in the Kali-yuga, there is strength in being united. The prominent example of the above saying is the recent fight given by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti against the Hindu proposed Act for Black Magic and the temporary success achieved by them. It was possible only due to the active participation of various religious institutions, sampradayas and saints. It was basically the direct and indirect participation of saints that resulted in success. Even if God cannot be seen, in effect, He is only doing everything.
Similarly, if one does not see saints doing anything, as a matter of fact, they are doing everything. But the saints do something only when a devotee calls them earnestly. Staunch Hindus did not see whether it was day or night; but they spread the agitation all over Maharashtra and therefore, saints i.e the God, in manifest gross form, had to do something to foil the attempt to pass such anti-Hindu Act and protect devotees. Hence, although anti-Dharma i.e. ‘Asura’ Congress party was in power, the Act could not be passed.
A ‘scholar’ from the Subtle world had hinted that the anti Black Magic Act would be passed. But the incident proves that as an individual’s destiny can be changed by undertaking spiritual practice, even the destiny of society can be altered by doing ‘samashti (collective)’ spiritual practice. In this case, the prachar (propagation) done by staunch Hindus was a collective spiritual practice.
Be ready for the next battle

It is possible that although the anti-Hindu Congress could not pass the Act in this session, it can carry out some modifications in the clauses and again present it in the next session. This time, the position of Hindus was like a student who takes up study after beginning of exams. Before starting of the next session of Assembly, Hindus should be so vigilant that the anti-Hindu Congress would think twice before presenting the Bill.
Give a fight even against the Dharma-drohis and the proposed Act to take over temples

We got a glimpse of victory when Hindus united. If Hindus come together and fight against the proposed law for taking over management of all temple and religious institution in the State, none of the political party would dare to pass anti-Hindu Acts in future and even anti-Hindu communists and other paths trying to destroy Hindu Dharma would be awed.
Recover the public money wasted in trying to pass such Acts that eventually fall through

1. The Government officials and workers must have spent a lot of time and money in preparing/ drafting of such anti-Constitutional Act. The salaries paid to these officers and workers should be individually recovered from the Government. Not only this, but the rulers responsible for the officials and workers neglecting their other work during the said period, should be punished.
2. For foiling Govt.’s attempts, the members of public had to waste their money and time to carry on agitations even that should be reimbursed by the ruling parties.
Shiv Sena and BJP MLAs from Legislative Assembly should learn a lesson from their counterparts in Legislative Council

In Legislative Assembly as well as in Legislative Council, Shiv Sena and BJP are in minority. Even then, in LA, the anti-Hindu Bill was passed and in LC, the Bill foundered. Why did this happen? Members of these parties in LA should seriously think about it. ?

When Alan Paton wrote Cry The Beloved Country he was lamenting how the whites could devise, construct and implement race and colourbased social and economic injustices over the blacks in apartheidera South Africa. ‘Cry O my Beloved India’ could be very well applied to our politics, for things have gone to such a pitch of unfair, blatant and outrageousness that it baffles the mind. Yet neither the politicians, nor most of the press find anything wrong in it. Just a few examples: Varun Gandhi spent nearly three weeks in jail under the NSA, just because he said something that might be reprehensible. But many mullahs spew fire and venom in their Friday discourse in numerous mosques in India — and none ever gets arrested, because riots would erupt immediately.
Sadhvi Pragnya, a Hindu woman monk, has been languishing in jail for months, even though no conclusive proof has been brought forward of her direct involvement in the Malegaon blasts case. Recently she was assaulted by a Muslim inmate at Byculla Jail and sustained injuries to her face, nose and neck. But you have the Islamist leader Abdul Nasser Madani, a prime accused in the Coimbatore bomb blasts, which cost the life of 60 people, who is standing for election in Kerala with the full backing of the CPI-M.
In Orissa, the police arrested the BJP candidate from Kandhamal constituency, Ashok Sahu, because he accused the church of using foreign money to induce innocent tribals to convert — which is a well documented fact, please read Tehelka’s cover story.
Yet terrorist Ajmal Amir Kasab, who went on killing people as if he was strolling in a mall, is enjoying a royal life. The entire Arthur jail has been vacated for him. 11.000 pages of his indictment charges are going to be translated in Urdu, just because he has asked for it and the court has even sanctioned the absurdity of DNA tests to determine his age. The entire country wants him judged quickly and hanged, but to please a minority, the Congress is dithering.
In the same way, the President of India, who is pliant to the will of the Congress, will not allow Afzal Guru, who has committed treason against his own country, to be hanged, till elections are over, for fear of alienating the Muslim vote. Yet the Congress keeps telling us Indian Muslims are patriotic. Then, why should it fear losing its votes when it hangs a traitor? Nobody thought two times about hanging Godse.
The LTTE blew up Rajiv Gandhi in a totally senseless and cruel manner, just because he was on the verge of becoming PM again. But today, because of Tamil Nadu votes, Rajiv’s widow, Sonia, sent emissaries to Sri Lanka to pressure the government to effect a ceasefire just as it is about to wipe out the LTTE after 25 years of a bloody civil war. Does it make sense to you?
India is about equality and rising above castes; yet since 1947, politicians of this country, particularly the Congress, and later V P Singh, Mulayam Singh, or Lalu Prasad, have divided India along castes and religious lines.
But Mayawati tops them all: she gave a push to her prime ministerial aspirations, promising Scheduled Caste status to 16 more castes if she takes power at the Centre.
In India, you are supposed to be elected with Rs 10 lakh of white money. But everybody knows that to become an MP today, you need Rs 10 crore, as you have to boast of a hundred-car caravan when you go campaigning, hire private planes, helicopters, gift free saris, dhotis, televisions, cash even, more and more. So where do you get the balance in black money? From corrupt businessmen, from the mafia, from kickbacks.
The tragedy is that the Indian press does not play its role, because not many mainstream newspapers or television channels complained when Varun Gandhi was in jail, while Madani, a criminal who has the lives of 60 innocent people on his hands, was not only scot free, but was standing for MP with the full backing of a political party, whose leader just said that he would not refuse the post of Prime Minister.
The real problem is that India has been colonised for too long, contrary to China whose people remain proud of their culture and intensely nationalistic. It has resulted in a deep-rooted inferiority complex in the Indian psyche, where every intellectual is always looking towards the West for approval and Indians are so obsessed with having the western type of democracy, without adapting it to the Indian conditions.
The system has become so perverted that only radical surgery to remove the diseased parts will start the indispensable cleansing process.
