Often we feel dejected and at times also become emotional about the scenario of life-threatening acts, poverty and corruption in the Nation. We dream about an ideal Nation; but it only remains a dream.  We do feel intensely for our nation in waves but with passage of time this feeling dies down. Only if we feel bhav towards our Nation then do we feel like doing something to improve the circumstances  in the  country. Here an attempt has been made to explain the meaning of bhav why it is necessary and how to awaken it to some extent.

Bhav is superior to emotion !

Emotions are perceived at the mental level. Emotion developed spontaneously in response  to a situation is temporary. On the other hand bhav is awakened in the subconscious mind. Though bhav is also generated spontaneously in response to a situation its awareness lasts for a long time. That is why  bhav is superior to mere emotion.

Contemplate on whether you have bhav for the nation by turning inwards!

Feeling dejected about our countrymen suffering due to starvation, the atrocities on our women, Hindu brethren getting killed in communal riots etc and worrying about the pathetic state of the country and wondering when its transformation will occur  are but transient emotions for the country.

1. Do you ever eat less thinking of those crores of your countrymen who starve ?

2. Have you ever shed tears for the injustice inflicted on your brethren in communal riots?

3. Have you ever felt disgusted towards the comforts and pleasures you are enjoying after knowing about the pitiable condition of the Kashmiri Hindus who were forced to leave Kashmir due to terrorism?

—– if you get such feelings then  you have some amount of bhav for the Nation.

Bhav arises from Sacrifice and Divine support  !

Many mawlas (Shivaji Maharaj’s soldiers) helped Chattrapati Shivaj Maharaj to establish a Hindavi Swarajya.  Every mawla would hold a tulsi (Holybasil) leaf in one hand and a burning coal in the other and ask Shivaji Maharaj ‘Tell me o king what shall I choose between the basil leaf and  the burning coal to get Swarajya (independence). I shall do as you say.’
The foundation of Hindu culture is  sacrifice . An accomplished state is  a part of the fruit of Hindu culture. So it is but natural  to develop bhav for the Nation through an attitude of sacrifice.
Bhav is a reaction at the  spiritual level. Pure bhav for the Nation can develop only through Divine support . ‘O youth, if you are struggling for the survival of  the Nation then it should accept  the Hindu religious code of conduct completely ’, said Swami Vivekanand. There is total surrender in bhav. Only in total surrender does God bless us. Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj had to face several  obstacles when establishing Hindavi Swarajya but he was able to overcome all of them because of his intense faith in  Deity Bhavanimata and also his righteous conduct .

To develop bhav for the Nation perform your duties for Dharma (religion) or do sadhana !

Only if one has bhav for the  Nation then  his actions will  be in the interest of the Nation. Though this is an undisputed fact   it is equally true that if you  do something for the  Nation as your duty unto Dharma or simply as sadhana then  you will gradually develop bhav for the Nation. What can you do to achieve  this? Follow the guidance of  Saints who have  deep concern for the Nation, give donations to organisations doing selfless social service for national welfare and above all  become a part of  their mission !

It will be possible to establish a Divine Kingdom only with bhav

One fostering bhav for  the Nation is a true patriot. An extremely beautiful Divine Kingdom will be established with  the guidance of Saints through such patriots. God is giving you an invaluable opportunity to participate in this mission of his by becoming a patriot. Do not let go of this opportunity !

O supporters of Hinduism, instead of  practising  Hindutva at the emotional level gain prowess through Spiritual Practice and then strive for Hindutva !

‘There are many Hindus in our society who strive for  Hindutva. They are very proud of Hinduism and are prepared  to face any kind of hardships to protect it.They get  agitated withHindu-haters and make all possible efforts to prevent harm to Hinduism and to stop denigration of Hindu Deities. What is important  here is that, when we work  for Hinduism or  any other good cause, support from  God is absolutely essential. Only then will our mission be successful. Even if we do not succeed due to an unfavourable period of time then our  faith in Hinduism remains firm.  I am enumerating some points below to show Hindu protagonists the significance of support from God, that is in other words, the importance of undertaking Spiritual Practice.  – Mrs. Rajashree Khollam [Jyeshtha Krushna Pratipada (27th June 2010)]

1.1 Ethics without Divine support is like a child deprived of parents

Mere ethics without Divine support is like a child deprived of parents. This means that in this frightful Kaliyug (era of strife)  just  being good, having good conduct, involvement  in  a good religious/righteous mission is not sufficient to attain success because the evil acts of evildoers during this period have reached a peak .  Cruel evildoers are constantly hatching conspiracies to torment us. So not to prevent harm caused by them  and to be able  work for Hindutva at all times we need blessings from God and the grace of our Guru (spiritual guide) because finally only God and  the Guru  can ferry us through a crisis. To achieve that we have to undertake appropriate Spiritual Practice  and seek their blessings. This is how  we increase our spiritual prowess. [Sanatan Sanstha and the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS)  are organisations which give proper  guidance on  Spiritual Practice ! – Compiler]

1.2 Following Dharma (righteousness)  enhances the Sattva component  and consequently  the spiritual prowess

We do not want Hindutva to be practised at the emotional level.  We want it to become our attitude as a result of continuous practice of achar (code of conduct) prescribed in Hinduism. This way Hindutva becomes powerful because by following the principles of Dharma we receive Divine blessings. Hence for all those who wish to participate in the mission of conserving Hindutva  there is no alternative to Spiritual Practice , it is a must.  Spiritual Practice enhances  the Sattva component in you,  creating spiritual prowess.  This helps you to face any difficult situation in life with Divine protection. Also anti-Hindus and evildoers feel terrorised with the grace of God and they are prevented   from  harming us.

1.3 Spiritual experiences of being able to achieve impossible tasks with Divine support

You can get spiritual experiences of achieving impossible tasks with  Divine support  as energy  from God is limitless. If we are devoted unto Him then when we call out to Him He rushes to our rescue and takes the task to successful completion.  Hence the task is accomplished beyond our expectations. This in turn enhances our devotion unto Him . Actually He gets His own task done with us as mere participants. Yet He showers His grace upon us.  In this way by surrendering doership to God  if you strive for Hinduism then the mission will become even more expansive.

1.4 The true objective is not working for protection of the Hindu Dharma rather to win the grace of  God

Our aim is not to protect the Hindu Dharma; it is  to win the grace of God. To carry out a mission for Dharma you need  tremendous spiritual prowess.  As Saints possess this they can accomplish  great missions by their sankalp (resolve) and even their presence. How much strength can we average humans possess  and how much can we achieve with that ? Hence if we perform the task with the blessings and guidance from  a Saint, we do not claim doership for it and the task is accomplished even more successfully . In addition we also  receive  Divine grace. Hence instead of working at the emotional level it is necessary to act after contemplation,  with spiritual strength .

1.5 Importance of Divine support  and grace of Saints !

Let us study a few incidents in the life of  Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj  to understand this .

Slaying of Afzal Khan by Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj

A. For two months before the meeting of  Afzal Khan and Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Pratapgad, Samarth Ramdasswami, his Guru, would offer abhishek (ritualistic bathing with water or milk) to  the Linga (Divine Phallus)  of Deity Rudra (Shiva) every day at  Mahabaleshwar. That protected Shivaji Maharaj and the enemy got  killed. This shows that mere planning and expertise in warfare is insufficient. Spiritual strength is also necessary to achieve success.

B. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj could easily escape from Aurangzeb’s prison  because of blessings from two Saints and for his observing achardharma.

C. Merely with the blessings of Saints and the tej (radiance) generated in him due to Spiritual Practice Shivaji Maharaj  could defeat the huge Mughal army and establish his own kingdom known as Hindavi Swarajya.

This makes it clear  that to fight the cruel evildoers it is not sufficient  to have only physical and  mental strength or dedication unto a cause.  To achieve success in the mission spiritual strength is very much essential .

It is my humble request to all  Hindu protagonists to contemplate on this article and commence Spiritual Practice  immediately to augment their spiritual prowess so that they can dedicate their lives for the Hindu cause wholeheartedly. I pray unto God to give all Hindus protaganists  the strength and wisdom to undertake Spiritual Practice !’

Sanghe Shaktihi Kalau Yuge !’ means in the Kali-yuga, there is strength in being united. The prominent example of the above saying is the recent fight given by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti against the Hindu proposed Act for Black Magic and the temporary success achieved by them. It was possible only due to the active participation of various religious institutions, sampradayas and saints. It was basically the direct and indirect participation of saints that resulted in success. Even if God cannot be seen, in effect, He is only doing everything.
Similarly, if one does not see saints doing anything, as a matter of fact, they are doing everything. But the saints do something only when a devotee calls them earnestly. Staunch Hindus did not see whether it was day or night; but they spread the agitation all over Maharashtra and therefore, saints i.e the God, in manifest gross form, had to do something to foil the attempt to pass such anti-Hindu Act and protect devotees. Hence, although anti-Dharma i.e. ‘Asura’ Congress party was in power, the Act could not be passed.
A ‘scholar’ from the Subtle world had hinted that the anti Black Magic Act would be passed. But the incident proves that as an individual’s destiny can be changed by undertaking spiritual practice, even the destiny of society can be altered by doing ‘samashti (collective)’ spiritual practice. In this case, the prachar (propagation) done by staunch Hindus was a collective spiritual practice.
Be ready for the next battle

It is possible that although the anti-Hindu Congress could not pass the Act in this session, it can carry out some modifications in the clauses and again present it in the next session. This time, the position of Hindus was like a student who takes up study after beginning of exams. Before starting of the next session of Assembly, Hindus should be so vigilant that the anti-Hindu Congress would think twice before presenting the Bill.
Give a fight even against the Dharma-drohis and the proposed Act to take over temples

We got a glimpse of victory when Hindus united. If Hindus come together and fight against the proposed law for taking over management of all temple and religious institution in the State, none of the political party would dare to pass anti-Hindu Acts in future and even anti-Hindu communists and other paths trying to destroy Hindu Dharma would be awed.
Recover the public money wasted in trying to pass such Acts that eventually fall through

1. The Government officials and workers must have spent a lot of time and money in preparing/ drafting of such anti-Constitutional Act. The salaries paid to these officers and workers should be individually recovered from the Government. Not only this, but the rulers responsible for the officials and workers neglecting their other work during the said period, should be punished.
2. For foiling Govt.’s attempts, the members of public had to waste their money and time to carry on agitations even that should be reimbursed by the ruling parties.
Shiv Sena and BJP MLAs from Legislative Assembly should learn a lesson from their counterparts in Legislative Council

In Legislative Assembly as well as in Legislative Council, Shiv Sena and BJP are in minority. Even then, in LA, the anti-Hindu Bill was passed and in LC, the Bill foundered. Why did this happen? Members of these parties in LA should seriously think about it. ?

Michel de Nostre-Dame, better known as Nostradamus (1503-1566), was a famous French astrologer whose predictions – which included the assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy & the premature death of the previous Pope – have proved infallibly accurate.
Recently, unpublished manuscripts of Nostradamus have been discovered (and authentified) in an old trunk in the French city of Lyon. Curiously, there are two full pages, which deal at length with India, particularly with the Bharatiya Janata Party and the just concluded elections. We are giving here the first words in Latin, the language which he used, along with a rough translation in English.
1. “Politicus Bharatus Janatus Indicus veni grandus est vingtus unus centurus – Congressus oublium est …”
English: The Bharatiya Janata Party will come to dominate India in the 21st century, as the Congress, will slowly sink into oblivion.
2. “Malheureusus, duo annum millenium trahisonus idealum est Congressus ressemblum, fautum adoptus est. Electionirium Blanca Madamus attaquum”…
English: Unfortunately, to achieve power, the BJP may gradually forsake most of its idealism. In the 1999 elections for instance, (Nostradamus made here a prediction error : he said duum millenium = 2000), instead of concentrating on real issues – water, sanitation, education – it will waste all its energies on attacking the White Lady (Sonia Gandhi, we suppose).
3. “Surtoutnum idealus oublium Indianum magna Carta devenus est”…
English: But more than these basic issues, which any sincere politician should have at heart, it will not address the real burning changes which India needs to adopt so as to become again a Great Power.
And Nostradamus goes on to enumerate these changes :
4. “Congressus independantum Blancum copium est; necessarus changum indianus cumum facus est”…
English: As the Congress had heavily borrowed from the White Man (British ?) at Independence, it will become necessary to “Indianize” the nation so that it may manifest again its true unique soul.
5. “Panchayatum villagum empruntus. Sanskritus introdum est. Historicum ecritum manus, daemonus est. Yogum, respirationnus introdum est…”
English: Give back the power to the villages in the form of Panchayat. Reintroduce Sanskrit as the national language. Rewrite Indian History, which had mostly been devised by White Masters. Revive ancient traditional systems such as pranayama, yoga, and incorporate them in the education system and everyday life. Change the Constitution so that democracy may not be perverted as it will be. Privatise the over-staffed Iron Bird (Indian Airlines ?), which has the most expensive fares in the world…
6. “Malheureusus, secularus montrarus Congressus devenium est, corptionus introdus cancerus est…”
English: Unhappily again, goes on to say Nostradamus, the BJP in its eagerness to prove itself secular (secularus is originally a Latin word), will tend to become like the Congress : corruption, bureaucracy, the VIP plague, the madness of subsidies and the hunger for power, may eat its inner core as a cancer…
7. “Americanus octopussus contentus summum est; jaunus manus menacus ignorum est, Gaullus manum oublius est. Aurobindus Ghosus Propehetus ignorum est”…
English: It will try to please the American octopus (?) at the cost of India’s integrity, will ignore the great danger of the Yellow Hand (China ?), it will forget that a reuniting with Pakistan is of utmost importance for the stability of the subcontinent, will shun the friendship of the Gauls (France ?) and will also disregard the words of its Great Prophet, Aurobindo Ghose.
And this is Nostradamus’ scoop – if we may say :
8. “Politicus Bharatus Janatus interminum dividus duum et novus politicus formus”…
English: After some time, the Bharatiya Janata Party may split into two. Sincere idealists will form a parallel party which will have as its political platform many of the ideals which the BJP had forsaken.
9. “Indianus pretus reformus est, Grandus nationus manum”…
English: India by that time will be ready for the Big Change and the new party will sweep away the polls and implement these reforms.
10. “Sanskritus savantuus nationalum languus, decentralisum governmentus, aryanus theorum mortuum est, dharmum hinduus devenum. Christianum, Islamus influencum”…
English: Scholars will sit down to modernise and simplify Sanskrit; government will be decentralised; India will strive to form of a federation of SAARC countries; the theory of the Aryan invasion will be proved false and it will be shown that Indian civilisation is at least ten thousand years old and has influenced all great ancient civilisations and religions such as Christianity and even Islam.
And finally :
11. “Aurobindus Ghosus realisum est, Indianum Agus ancientus mortum non est”..
English: And the prophecy of Sri Aurobindo will be fulfilled : “India of the ages is not dead nor has She spoken Her last creative word. And that which She must seek now to awake, is not an anglicised oriental people, docile pupil of the West and doomed to repeat the cycle of the Occident’s success and failure, but still the ancient immemorial Shakti recovering Her deepest self, lifting Her head higher towards the supreme source of light and strength and turning to discover the complete meaning and vaster form of Her Dharma”.
P.S. Nostradamus had written a Post Script:
12. “Post Scriptum : Politicus Bharatus Janatus minus votus, realisus stupidum est et changum exorcisus”…
English: As the BJP, in spite of its alliance getting overall majority (in 1999), will actually win less seats than in the previous election (because of it folly of forsaking its idealism and only attacking the White Lady), it may come to its senses and take-up again its original ideals, thus avoiding the Split. In this way, this semi-defeat may help to exorcise the demons of mediocrity.

Two snapshots from a recent tourist trip to Europe: We are in Prague, the lovely and lively capital of the Czech Republic, where the bars and cafes are full, the glitzy crystal and art shops are busy, and the dozens of historic cathedrals and churches are largely empty — except for gawking tourists snapping photos. In The Prague Post, an English-language weekly newspaper, a front-page article reports, in titillating detail, how the city has become Europe’s new capital for pornographic filmmaking, while an op-ed examines why only 19% of the people in this once-religious country believe that God exists.
Change the scene to Rome. We are at the Vatican, swimming in a sea of 150,000 people waiting in St. Peter’s Square for Pope Benedict XVI to appear at a special celebration for Catholic children who have made their first communion in the past year. Rock bands and kids’ choirs entertain the faithful until a roar sweeps through the crowd at the first sighting of the “Popemobile,” carrying the waving, white-robed Benedict down barricaded lanes through the throng. The crowd goes wild.
For an American Catholic visitor, Europe is a puzzling and sometimes discouraging place these days. Is God dead here? Many signs suggest that Europeans think so.

Decline in attendance

“Common wisdom has it that alcoholics outnumber practicing Christians and that more Czechs believe in UFOs than believe in God — and common wisdom may be correct,” wrote Nate and Leah Seppanen Anderson in a Prague Post commentary; he’s a freelance writer, and she’s a political science professor at Wheaton College in Illinois and a specialist in Czech politics and society. Surveys show a sharp decline in church attendance and religious practice in most European countries. A series of Eurobarometer surveys since 1970 in five key countries (France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Italy) shows that regular church attendance fell from about 40% of the population to about half that figure. Declines were sharpest in predominantly Catholic nations.
Even so, how do we account for the extraordinary outpouring of grief at Pope John Paul II’s death in April and the enthusiasm that his successor seems to evoke? Are these mere public spectacles, signifying nothing about Europe’s drift from its religious roots, or are they signs of yearning for something more than peace, prosperity and la dolce vita?
As only an occasional visitor to Europe, I claim no expertise in these matters. But some who do see the emergence of a post-Christian era in Europe that has profound consequences for the continent and perhaps is an ominous portend for the United States. Where Europe has gone, America could be going — and that is a prospect that is frightening Christians and sharpening the religious divide in this country.
Western Europe, the cradle of modern Christianity, has become a “post-Christian society” in which the ruling class and cultural leaders are anti-religious or “Christophobic,” writes George Weigel, a Catholic columnist and U.S. biographer of Pope John Paul II. In his new book, The Cube and the Cathedral: Europe, America, and Politics Without God, he argues that religious differences help explain the policy tensions between Europe and the United States.
“It would be too simple to say that the reason Americans and Europeans see the world so differently is that the former go to church on Sundays and the latter don’t,” Weigel writes. “But it would also be a grave mistake to think that the dramatic differences in religious belief and practice in the United States and Europe don’t have something important to do with those different perceptions of the world — and the different policies to which those perceptions eventually lead.”
A fierce controversy over any mention of Europe’s Christian heritage erupted in 2004 when officials were drafting a constitution for the European Union, Weigel notes.
Any mention of the continent’s religious past or contributions of Christian culture — in a preface citing the sources of Europe’s distinct civilization — would be exclusionary and offensive to non-Christians, many argued. Former French president Valery Giscard d’Estaing, who presided over the process, summed up the dominant view: “Europeans live in a purely secular political system, where religion does not play an important role.”

‘Demographic suicide’

Among the consequences of Europe’s abandonment of its religious roots and the moral code that derives therefrom is a plunge in its birth rates to below the replacement level. Abortion, birth control, acceptance of gay marriage and casual sex are driving the trend. Europe is “committing demographic suicide, systematically depopulating itself,” according to Weigel.
United Nations population statistics back him up.
Not a single Western European country has a fertility rate sufficient to replace the current population, which demographers say requires 2.1 children per family. Germany, Russia, Spain, Poland and Italy all have rates of about 1.3 children, according to the U.N. The Czech Republic’s is less than 1.2, and even Roman Catholic Ireland is at 1.9 children. (The U.S. rate, which has remained stable, is slightly more than 2 children per woman.)
Fifteen countries, “mostly located in Southern and Eastern Europe, have reached levels of fertility unprecedented in human history,” according to the U.N.’s World Population Prospects 2004 revision.
As children grow scarce and longevity increases in Europe, the continent is becoming one vast Leisure World. By 2050, the U.N. projects, more than 40% of the people in Italy will be 60 or older. By mid-century, populations in 25 European nations will be lower than they are now; Russia will lose 31 million people, Italy 7.2 million, Poland 6.6 million and Germany 3.9 million. So Europe is abandoning religion, growing older, shrinking and slowly killing itself. These are signs of a society in eclipse — the Roman Empire writ large. Is this any model for America?
In his 2001 book, The Death of the West, conservative commentator Patrick Buchanan argues that a European-style “de-Christianization of America” is the goal of many liberals — and they are succeeding.
Court decisions that have banned school-sponsored prayer, removed many Nativity scenes from public squares, and legalized gay marriage are part of that pattern, as is the legal effort to erase “In God We Trust” from U.S. currency and “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance.
Europe is showing us where this path leads. It is not the right path for America.
